Dear Emily

It's always interesting to me that there are certain "life hacks" to shortcut things we do in our everyday lives and eye makeup is no exception. So for those who are in need of some beauty cheat codes, I have devised a "Dear Abby" type page but of course it will be called "Dear Emily".

Dear Emily,

My eyes are too small!! I want to try some unconventional looks for my eyes but I also want them to look bigger.

Sincerely,
Why can't I have it all?

Dear Why can't I have it all?,

You definitely CAN "have it all". Here are some things to consider:

  • Eyebrows (Yes they are important!): Besides requesting that your wax guru make your unibrow a thing of the past, try experimenting with different eyebrow shapes. The shape of your eyebrows  really affects the frame of your face and can take your makeup to the next level.

Notice how different eyebrow shapes on the same face really change the framing of the eyes. I reccomend getting the "very high arched" eyebrows to make your eyes look bigger.

  •   Applying white eyeliner to your waterline on each eye really opens them up and also appears to enhance size.
  • Extending your eyeliner just past where your eye ends provides an illusion that your eyes are more pronounced.

  • A great mascara is also a key ingredient in creating a good visual. A good mascara not only lengthens your lashes but also spreads them out which makes eyes look more pronounced.
I hope these quick tips help you on your quest for big, beautiful eyes!!

Emily

Dear Emily,

Makeup products that are super intimate with my eye (like liner and mascara) irritate my eyes. IT HURTS.

Sincerely,
Ouch

Dear Ouch,
Unfortunately popular makeup brands use a lot of harsh chemicals and everyone's eyes/skin are different. Try using vegan makeup brands such as Urban Decay or hypoallergenic brands/products like Lush Cosmetics (I'm a personal fan of Lush). It may be more expensive but it's worth it. You deserve to look and feel good. I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Emily
