Is digital editing stealing the show?

I'm a fan of photoshop (regardless of how big the price tag is) and it's innovation on technology. The world of advertising is such a utopia because of graphic designers and their skill with manipulating images.

Although, I believe it's too perfect sometimes. Cosmetology has always played a huge role in advertising but isn't the use of graphic design stealing their thunder? The first thing people notice about someone else is their face and it must be flawless in order to have effective advertising.

The whole objective is to make the audience hungry for something and they want it to seem that their product/service can satisfy you. Where is cosmetology's fit in this anymore? The woman's left image is her wearing amateurish makeup. Simply by applying techniques in photoshop, her whole presence has changed in the photo on the right simply because of the media manipulation. Does this mean that companies will start hiring amateur makeup artists because it's cheaper to do so and then photoshop the imperfections?
